How to replace a product in a video

Prepare a clear product shot, choose a replacement photo, select the product and review sound and cost in UseLipSync's limited Product Swap beta.

By the UseLipSync team · Updated

The short answer

Product replacement changes the visible item in a shot using a photo of a replacement product. In UseLipSync's limited Product Swap beta, start with a video you own and a clear photo of a similar item, draw a box around the original product, choose sound, then review the actual credit quote. A product swap does not rewrite the product name in speech or captions. General access is not open; this guide explains the current approved-account workflow and how to prepare suitable inputs.

Start with a shot that can work

Use one continuous shot with one clearly visible product. A bottle held steadily against a simple background is easier to assess than a product being opened, poured, consumed or repeatedly hidden by hands. Choose a replacement of a similar shape and category, photographed from a compatible angle.

The current beta accepts an MP4 or MOV source lasting 4–15 seconds, up to 50MB. Choose a 4–8 second moment for replacement. A complete source already within that range is prepared directly; a longer supported source opens the clip selector. JPG, PNG and WebP replacement images can be up to 10MB, with both dimensions at least 256 pixels and a standard portrait, square or landscape shape.

Select the product without a long form

Add the reference video and replacement image. After preparation, a frame opens automatically. Draw a box around the original product and release to select it. There is no required product-description field or second confirmation button. Use the frame slider if the product is hidden in the first frame, then draw the box again.

Fine-tune selection provides optional text, exact coordinates and keyboard adjustment. The box identifies the product in that frame; it is a reference for generation, not a promise that every pixel outside the box will remain unchanged.

Check sound and output before generating

Keep original sound asks the model to retain the reference sound. Words, music and timing may change; it is not a direct soundtrack copy. No sound delivers a muted result. A visual replacement does not change an old brand name, price, subtitle or claim that remains in speech or on screen.

Output length follows your selected moment and matches a supported whole second from 4 to 8 seconds. For example, a 7.1-second selection defaults to a 7-second output. The interface shows the actual output length before you review the quote. Output is 768P, with the original aspect ratio requested.

Review permissions and the actual price

Confirm that you own or have permission to edit the footage, replacement image and any original sound, and that the shot and replacement are suitable. Upload & check files uploads the selected inputs privately and checks them together. Review price then shows required credits, your available balance and any shortfall. Generating is a separate explicit action.

The approved beta rate is 700 credits per output second: a 4-second output is 2,800 credits and a 7-second output is 4,900 credits. Use the current server quote for the actual charge. Saving a draft or buying credits does not automatically start a video. Unsubmitted uploads follow the existing 24-hour temporary-input policy; private files do not become public examples by default.

Review the result as a new creative version

Inspect the product silhouette, hands, label area, background, frame-to-frame consistency and sound before publishing. Fine text, logos, barcodes and exact packaging details are not guaranteed. Do not present a generated product interaction as proof of use, performance or endorsement.

This guide documents the beta interface and input limits. It does not contain a public before-and-after product result. Existing character-replacement demos illustrate Recreate and should not be treated as Product Swap evidence.

Common questions

Can every visitor generate a Product Swap video?

No. Generation is limited to approved beta accounts. Signing in alone does not grant access. You can read this guide without an account and contact support about availability.

Does a 7-second video need trimming?

A supported complete source within 4–8 seconds prepares directly. A longer supported source requires choosing a 4–8 second moment.

Can I change the spoken product name too?

Product Swap does not rewrite speech or captions. Plan the audio separately; see the workflow comparison before choosing a tool.

Can I use another brand's advertising video?

Use footage and images you own or are authorized to edit. Public availability of an advertisement does not by itself establish editing or publicity rights.
